 ActCel™
Hemostatic Gauze is a collagen-like natural substance created from
chemically treated cellulose. It is an effective, hemostatic agent
registered with the FDA to help control bleeding from open wounds and
in body cavities. When it comes in contact with blood, it expands
slightly and converts to a gel that dissolves into glucose and saline
over a 1-2 week period.
Because of its purity and the fact that it simply
degrades to these end products, ActCel™ does not cause delayed healing
as do other hemostatic materials that may have a similar appearance.
ActCel™ is available in three main standard
sizes: 2x2, 2x4, and 4x4.
Composition: collagen-like natural substance
created
from regenerated cellulose. ActCel™ contains no chemical additives,
thrombin or collagen and is hypoallergenic.
ActCel™ is used to stop minor to major bleeding.
Dentists, EMS/First Responders, OB/GYN’s, Veterinarians, and Plastic
surgeons have all been using the product in their areas of specialty.
Mechanism
of Action
Adhering: ActCel™ adheres to the
bleeding surface, physically blocking and sealing off the damaged blood
vessels.
Expanding: Once in contact with
blood, ActCel™ expands to create direct pressure and helps stop bleeding
Transforming: ActCel™ transforms
into a collagenlike gel that increases platelet aggregation and
stabilizes clot formation.
Dissolving: ActCel™ is
water-soluble
and is easily rinsed away with sterile water, saline or hydrogen
peroxide. Once ActCel™ has helped form a clot, it will dissolve into a
glucose saline gel in 1-2 weeks.
