Royal Arms Training Frequently Asked Questions
Who is
eligible for
training?
Due to the sensitive nature of equipment, techniques and tactics, all training provided by Royal Arms International and its associated instructors is limited to Military, Law Enforcement and Governmental Agencies only.
Can I take Royal Arms Classes even if my department or organization does not have a breaching program?
Absolutely! Royal Arms is not only a premier manufacturer of Breaching Ammunition, we strive to spread the discipline and techniques of ballistic breaching through out the community. Training, even if not fully supported by the department, give the operator greater options and Òmore tools in the toolboxÓ or the ability to overcome certain obstacle deemed un-breach able with conventional methods.
Are there
classes for
just one officer? What are the
minimum class sizes?
As with most things in life, cost is an important factor when considering any form of training. Royal Arms instructors are willing to teach any sized class permitted the facility is capable and time allows. Royal Arms Instructors typically keep the ratio of student to instructor at or below 15 to 1. Smaller classes are ideal for training, however this becomes costly as the instructors fixed cost for the facility, travel, and fess are spread over fewer students.
What is
involved in
ballistic breaching class?
Typically the classes will have three parts:
Formal classroom didactics
Live Fire Training
Final Discussions, Questions and Knowledge Assessment
Do we have to
provide
the training location?
No. Royal Arms works with several instructors who have facilities available for training should it be necessary. In addition, mobile training equipment exists which can allow extensive breach training to occur at many local facilities.
What
facilities do we
need to provide to host a course?
Obviously, this varies from course to course. A classroom sized appropriately for the group equipped with an overhead projector for PowerPoint is needed. A chalk board or easel is also necessary. As for the range, it must be suitable for tactical training of firearms. Generally, we require a mobile breach training door be purchased or the range must have multiple doors mounted and available for destructive training. There is a minimum of 1 door per 2 students, although 1 to 1 is recommended. Should doors be mounted in a manner requiring frequent setting and resetting, the appropriate hardware and personnel must be available to ensure smooth and timely live fire training.
Could we use
a condemn
or vacant building within our city?
Yes! Royal Arms recommend to get in contact with your local building permit office and see if any large building or complexes are condemned and about to be destroyed. In this case let them know your agency would like to use the building for training purposes prior to demolition. This is an idea situation since the is very little cost to the department, and a typically the construction you encounter within you city vary on slightly. This will give you the best scenario of realistic training available. This also eliminates high cost of travel for your department.
How many
hours/days
will the class take?
Each class is modified to the needs of the specific department or group. All timing issues are heavily influenced by the facility in which the course is conducted. Typically, 8-12 hours of actual instruction is required to meet certification requirements for the basic class. This can be a long day or spread over two days as needed. Obviously larger groups will require greater logistics and more time. The advanced class is typically 6-8 hours of actual instruction but can be modified to be significantly more depending on the needs of the class.
Can I get
POST credit
for my training?
Yes. Royal Arms Ballistic Breaching Program does meet the requirements for POST Credit in several states. If we have not yet obtained approval in your state, simply advise your instructor of the need and the applications will be made (Time permitting)
What
Equipment do I
need as a student?
While requirements can vary as per department issue, there are a few items which will be required for every student.
Full coverage clothing (flame retardant preferred)
Ballistic Helmet
Ballistic Eye Protection
Ballistic Gloves
Body Amour
Leather or similarly tough full height boots (Flame retardant preferred)
Are we
required to use
shotguns with a stand-off device?
Yes. Although the techniques taught can be used with many shotguns and techniques utilized for shotguns without stand-off devices will be discussed, Royal Arms requires a stand-off device on all shotguns used for breach training.
Do you require using breaching rounds during practice? Can we use less costly stock ammunition for classes?
Yes. Royal Arms and associated instructors may use Òbird shotÓ rounds for limited portions of the course to speed and lessen the cost of training of large groups. However, Royal Arms feels it is critically important that each student practice the actual deployment of its rounds. This requirement is for both safety and to ensure a full comprehension of the forces involved. We train with Frangible Ammunition for the same reason they are used in the fieldÉ. It is safer and they work better!
Will Royal
Arms
instructors provide department SOPs and tactics?
Royal Arms highly encourages department policy
makers to
attend our courses so that they may improve their grasp of the risks,
benefits
and alternatives of any breaching technique. Royal
Arms believes that departmental SOPÕs and specific
tactical decisions should be left to the departmentÕs policy
makers and team
leadership on a case-by-case basis. Royal Arms has a general SOP and
Tactics
however this is not a replacement for your agencies practices and
engagement policy.
